To say that this tiny model was sooo not having it would be an understatement. She was down for sleeping right in the beginning, but quickly gave up on that. Then it was a battle of wits between the adults and the child to make sleep happen again. Mom, Auntie, and I all did our best. Finally she was ready to retire and we got in another set up before, you guessed it, she was up again!
All babies have their own personalities and react differently to the camera. That’s what makes newborn photography so entertaining for those of us crazy enough to try. Often the strangeness of it all or the sound of the shutter can wake them despite best efforts to make them comfortable and provide white noise. Awake shots where they sit and gaze at you are actually some of my favorites because newborn eyes are absolutely mesmerizing in their beauty and reflective qualities. Unfortunately, however, this little one didn’t care to be put down at all when she was awake. There was no calmly gazing back at me, only screaming for mom. *oooh man* Luckily, I was able to grab some beautiful shots of her with her mom as she delivered the kind of comfort that sometimes only a mom can. You can actually see the moment she gave in and let the sleep wash over her.
I started fairly cautiously with poses once she was soundly asleep and won big right away. She’s such a gorgeous little girl with a head of dark, ultra-fine hair. Her family brought in the beautiful bright pink crown and I paired it with a bloomer I had that brought the backdrop and crown together color-wise. I love the choice of vivid colors for this shoot and I think it compliments her vibrant personality and brought out the beautiful tones of her skin. Getting more daring, I started to move her into more exaggerated poses. That lasted for one modest transition before she was on to me and not having it again. *sigh* Dear Princess A, I could photograph your beauty all day, why won’t you let me? =P
This little girl is crazy beautiful. I try to start out with the guaranteed poses first and then move forward. Quickly after positioning the hands, she was over it. And boy did she let me know it!
She loves her mommy and her aunt so much. Once it was clear that she was not going back to sleep without a struggle, they did their very best to make her a happy girl once again. (Those fuzzy ears slay me!)
The rim light coming in from the window just absolutely made this picture of her little feet. one of my favorites yet!
The moment when she finally gave in to sleep. (Her arms hadn’t heard the news yet.)
My word she’s lovely, isn’t she?
