Many moons ago (Spring 2017), I spent an afternoon photographing two of my favorite people. Why are they my favorite people? Well many, many, MANY moons ago (1990), I met Lea and we’ve been friends ever since. And as destiny has a way, she found her perfect match in Adam. (Which is fortunate for me too because I disliked all of her other boyfriends about as much as I adore Adam. We can laugh about that now? Right? Too soon? Anyway…) I could not love this person more without marrying her myself or sharing a common lineage. So it pleases me so to see her find her person. I wanted to celebrate the year mark for their marital union with a photo shoot. Their Fort Collins anniversary session took place at a few places that seemed perfect for them. First we went to the Discovery Museum because it’s weird, informative, musical, fun, and has bees – just like Lea and Adam! Then we cruised back to their house to feed the chickens and pet the pups. We ended up at Horsetooth Reservoir for golden hour and sunset. The wild grass, glistening lake, and meandering exploration are quintessentially Lea during our formative years on the High Plains. Now, for the rest of this post I’m going to share memories about my BFF like her husband isn’t even in the room…
We started off in the interactive light exhibit. Some 15+ years ago I had a took a photo of Lea with psychedelic lights (with my very first digital camera). Some things never change.
When I think of Lea, I think of bugs. As a kid, she was the only girl I knew picking up spiders. She’s always been the coolest, most open-minded person I know. So the microscope with insect specimen seemed a great way to display her colorful wedding ring.
Lea has always been very musical in a way that I never was. I love it that Adam, who does not in fact play bass, totally went for the effect. That’s how I know he’s good people. Being a little weird is mandatory for us. Lea is the girl who gifted me a stuffed wombat for my birthday after all.
I was a big ‘ol science nerd in school. And it meant everything to me that my friends were too. Of particular interest to Lea and Me – Biology. When college came along, she went for the macro level biology while I chose the micro.
Stay tuned for Part II – The Great Outdoors
