A short while ago I put out an APB for couples who wanted to do something different. I felt like I had seen too many sunsets in a field recently and wanted an adventurous couple who was willing to go urban. Marny and Mark accepted the challenge and I’m so happy they did! These two were an absolute delight to work with. Fun, energetic, AND they were more than willing to walk all over town for about 3 hours to let me test out concepts. I could have chilled with them all evening!
Marny really wanted to go somewhere unexpected like the zoo or a museum. When the zoo wasn’t panning out, we made plans to have a Denver Art Museum engagement session. Little did we know, there was going to be festival outside the museum disrupting traffic and a freak thunderstorm that dumped rain on us right at our meetup time. I think we were all starting to wonder if this series of setbacks was a bad omen. But Marny and Mark are totally my kind of clients. They agreed to a change of plans that had them meeting a stranger on an abandoned level of a parking garage…during a thunderstorm. The trust was strong in these ones and it paid off with the image below. During my recon mission to the DAM before their session I fell in love with these over-sized ads on the side of the garage. When I got there that Sunday, a huge pickup was in front of my favorite one. The only car on that level besides my own. Seriously? But our luck was changing. As I was waiting on them to find our shady meetup, the truck took off and I promptly used my person to defend the spaces against any other cars. =P
Things only got better from there. We spent the final hour that the museum was open enjoying the interactive exhibits. (Given more time and better light, there is still so much territory to cover there for sure. Contact me to set something up!) Now that the sun was out, we got to enjoy the outdoor spaces, including the top of the garage and its incredible view of the museum and library on the skyline.
Next we decided to keep the colors going and hit the RiNo Arts District. I was delighted to find that Marny was all about the puddle reflection photos (some of my all-time favorites) and we had plenty of puddles from which to choose. The ever-changing artwork on the buildings of RiNo made for a fantastic sightseeing walk and great backdrops as well. We even ran into a mural that paid homage to a Netflix show they are binging on. What are the odds? Even after a few hours of walking and chatting, the energetic couple wanted to keep going. We ended up looking over the city at sunset atop yet another parking garage. Then my flash kicked the bucket and it seemed our luck had also come full circle. But the magic of those 3 hours was more than enough to satisfy my need for urban photos.
Thank you Marny and Mark for being your awesome selves and letting me capture it!
