I have known Brynnie’s mamma for a few years now and was over the moon when I heard that baby #2 was finally a reality. (I may have cried a little like a weirdo at a wedding show when our coworker told us.) A much anticipated rainbow baby, everyone was excited for Bryn to join her brother, Blake – a.k.a. The Cutest Little Boy Ever. They already had newborn and family photos lined up with their family photographer. But somewhere around the 6 week mark I managed to talk mom into letting me come up with my bean bag and do some tinkering for my portfolio. So I took all my gear up to their home in Erie Colorado for a mini baby photography session.
At 6 weeks, Bryn wasn’t exactly a newborn but not a typical 3 month baby photography session. So I knew it would be a crap shoot going in but wanted to take a crack at it. We did some awake and squirmy shots in which she showed that she had a lot of personality for a little one! I guarantee some of those faces will continue to show up for her whole life and make her parents giggle looking back on these. It’s so cool to see how people develop their expressions and behaviors right from the beginning.
After a lot of food and some prayers being put out into the universe, we did get some sleepy shots of this little sprite. I went for a more natural, baby-led posing since she was easily startled at first. I didn’t do too much straightening of fingers or squishing of body. Bryn is a girl who knows what she wants and seemed the most settled when she was near her own blanket (the floral comforter is from her nursery) and her little pink bunny. That was fine by me because the headband I brought just happened to match her blanket perfectly. Hooray for happy accidents! After settling her again from one setup to the next, I got a few potato sack poses on the dusty pink flokati before moving on to some more traditional photos on the grey popcorn blanket. Unfortunately, we never did get outdoor shots in her parents’ lovely garden the way I would have hoped. But perhaps that’s a great idea for a cake smash session here in a few months when she turns 1. =)
Keep being awesome Bryn!
