I had a blast doing this session! I think I have for sure found my second favorite type of shoot (behind births). Don’t get me wrong, I adore all the props and the sleepy adorableness of posed newborns. (I may or may not have a pretty alarming collection of tiny props accumulating downstairs.) But man do I love documentary style photography! Three cheers for the newborn lifestyle session!
I love that these wonderful parents will not only get to remember how their baby looked when he was still so very new; they will remember how THEY looked and how they looked AT each other as they felt the impact of this brand new life they created. They will remember how their home felt when they had just moved in and began creating a lifetime of memories there. They will be able to look back on how their pets reacted to this less fury sibling. They will even remember the view from the window of his nursery – surely something they will see often as they stand in his room to comfort his cries. As a mom myself, these things are huge to me. And I’m thrilled beyond measure that I get to help other people have that too.
Little Torin was about 2 weeks new when these photos were taken. His parents, Hannah and Grear, had just moved into their new home. Having come prematurely, he threw his parents for a bit of a loop. But his grandparents came to the rescue and set up the house for them to come home. (And I have to say it looks more put together than my home after years. They did an incredible job.) Torin’s mom and dad decorated his nursery in hand-painted mountains and a rugged-yet-modern wilderness theme. Every little touch was so well coordinated that you can see the care they put into his new space. His fury siblings were skeptical of the new baby but more than happy to camp out on his tiny “bear skin” rug.
